Release 1.  This is the first release of this unit of competency in the NWP National Water Training Package.

Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to use digital imaging equipment in the field.

It includes planning and preparing for work, locating and investigating infrastructure failures, cleaning up site and equipment, and finalising tasks.

This unit applies to those using digital imaging equipment in the field, interpreting data and reporting infrastructure failures to relevant personnel. Those undertaking this unit would work independently under indirect supervision while performing routine tasks with a moderate level of complexity in familiar contexts.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

Determine work requirements from work instructions and pre-work inspections according to organisational requirements

Identify area of network main to be investigated and consult with plans to determine the work area

Locate and investigate infrastructure failure

Identify pipe section containing infrastructure issues using digital imaging equipment

Assessment requirements

Release 1.  This is the first release of this unit of competency in the NWP National Water Training Package.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

  • arranging repairs and confirming they have been completed appropriately
  • conducting risk assessments
  • interpretating data from digital imaging equipment
  • reading maps, plans and diagrams
  • reporting and communicating infrastructure issues to relevant personnel
  • restoring worksite
  • securing and identifying the work area whilst undertaking work
  • using digital imaging equipment to locate and identify infrastructure issues.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

  • digital data storage
  • digital imaging equipment capability
  • environmental procedures
  • hazards, risks and controls specific to work health and safety (WHS) operating procedures
  • network cleaning techniques
  • network water or wastewater quality hazards
  • use and maintenance of relevant equipment
  • water or wastewater networks.

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in suitable workplace operational situations. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in suitable simulated workplace operational situations reflecting actual workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to:

  • relevant and appropriate materials, tools, facilities, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) currently used in industry
  • applicable relevant documentation, including workplace procedures, industry standards, equipment specifications, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals
